Yang(2) Shi [2022] His ancestors were Hongnong jun Yang(2) aristocrats (wangxing). His fifth generation unnamed ancestor, Yang(2) A [4036], fled the disorders of his region and moved to Nanjian, Jiangluo xian where the family (jia) established its permanent address. Nanjian was the ancestral home of his grandmother, Zhu(1) Shi. In 1072, at the age of 20, he was recommended (jian) by his community (xiang) and took the preliminary examination the following year, 1073, and subsequently passed the jinshi in 1076. He was Jiong's [2001] and Yu(2)'s [2034] father. His son-in-law, Chen(1) Yuan [3094], was Chen(1) Guan(2)'s [7128] grandnephew. Chen(1) Yuan studied the works of the Cheng(1) brothers [3102] [3105] at an early age and then became a student of Shi, who gave him his daughter in marriage. Yuan obtained his initial post through the recommendation of Hu(1) Hong's [7252] uncle Hu(1) Anguo [3394]. Another son-in-law, Jianning, Jianan xian resident, Lu(5) Tang [3639], was also Shi's student.
