Guo(1) Wei [22530] His original surname may have been Chang(2), which was changed to Guo(1) when his mother married Guo(1) Jian(3) [22529]. He become founder of the Later Zhou in 952, after having served as Shumi shi under the Later Han. He moved to Taiyuan when he was 3 years old, which may mean that the Chang(2) were Xingzhou, Yaoshan people and that the Guo(1) were Taiyuan people. For the time being, I am assuming that he was the natural, rather than adopted, son of Guo(1) Jian(3). Wan Sitong, Wudai jiangxiang dachen nianbiao (ESWSBB), p. 8; JWDS(PRC), 110.1447-8.From Hartwell's ACTIVITY table:947: Apt. provisional Shumi fushi947: Promoted from provisional to proper Shumi fushi949: As Shmi fushi, he set forth to battle the Khitan950: He returned from battle with the Khitan as Shumi fushi and became first emperor of the Later Zhou.
